just after school started i snuck out of town for the weekend to meet up with a girlfriend in new orleans!
we had an amazing little suite on magazine street (just far enough from the madness) and spent most of our time walking & eating yummy food. she arrived the night before me, and i left a night after her, so we each got a night alone & together, which made it even more fun of a mix.
bourbon street was cool.
then we saw a jazz show at preservation hall and when we exited onto boubon street (after dark),
bourbon street was suddenly, absolutely bananas.
i thought nyc was wild, but, HIIIII.
we rode streetcars- a total highlight- including a ride to the sculpture garden outside the museum of art, which was another fave.
we brunched a lot.
we ate our weight in beignets (cafe du monde were my fave). when the waiter brought us our diet cokes & beignets i thought he said "$50" but in fact he said "$15" so that was a delightful surprise (and made them taste even better. literally nothing shocks me in terms of cost anymore- reminding me how nyc's twisted prices have messed me up.)
everything except shake shack closed before 8pm so late-night burgers were dinner. two nights in a row.
we took a tour at cemetery #1 and it was amazing. our guide, zelda, was hilarious and charming, and a wealth of knowledge wherein i found my jaw on the ground frequently. it was 100 million degrees, but no one in our group passed out, so, win!
the windows and tall doors and old floors, and overall fancy iron and southern architecture was even lovelier than i imagined.
